What type of Window to Choose?

When looking for new windows in Liverpool there are numerous firms to choose from. Decide on the look you want to achieve and how this fits in with the style or period of your property. You may go for double glazing, metal or hardwood, a traditional or modern style casement, or have something special such as leaded or stained glass. The choice of styles, designs, openings etc is staggering.

Changing your windows need not be a big task, if you have draughts, leaks or condensation check with your glazer as he may be able to offer a repair rather than full replacements. Property prices in Liverpool have risen steadily and a home fitted with good quality double glazing will increase its value.

Hard Wood and Soft Wood Frames

Available in either hard wood or soft wood this styles offers an attractive look but is more costly than UPVC. Most come already glazed and sealed are treated with preservative.

Metal Frames

Most modern metal frames will be galvanised to help prevent rust. These are fitted into wooden frames but do need aftercare to keep them looking new. Either a coat of paint or varnish to the wood to keep it in good condition.

Double Glazing

Replacing your existing windows by having double glazing installed could save you up to half on your heating bills. Double glazing traps air between the two panes of glass and can help reduce condensation, noise and heat loss. UPVC are extremely low maintenance and can stand up to the harshest of weather conditions. If you are on a budget why not just get the windows replaced in the rooms that you use most often or opt for secondary glazing instead.

Window Styles

There are a number of different windows styles to choose from such as box, bay, sash, bow and casement to name a few. The range of styles, openings and decoration is huge. Obviously the more features you have this will reflect in the price. Ask your glazier for advice on the different designs available.

Some older properties in Liverpool favour leaded glass. This can also be applied to new windows as well but can be expensive and high maintenance.

If you want something a bit different why not have a stained glass window installed. This is usually a one off feature and fitted with good light exposure to capture the suns rays through the coloured glass. Most people opt to have them in either their hallways or landings for this reason. Stained glass firms can supply standard designs but you also have the option of designing your own.
