Merseyside Home Improvements - STUDENTS GET GREEN LIGHT FOR MHI TRAILER
A team of media students have won a competition to create an eye-catching new internet
trailer
for a Merseyside company.
First year South Cheshire College students Steve Baker, Andrew Sobutta, Jacob Lee and James Rands are ready to roll with the new footage which will be a key promotional tool for Merseyside Home Improvements (MHI).
The lucky winners had their trailer idea selected by MHI directors Lyn Henderson and Mark Williams following a 'Dragon's Den' style presentation at college.
The BTEC National Diploma Media group were one of several teams of students who were given a brief to work to before pitching their ideas and concepts to Lyn and Mark.
Students carried out extensive research into internet adverts and then came up with ideas for the innovative internet trailer which is their major course project.
Now the winning team will finalise the filming and production of their short masterpiece
which will
go live on MHI's website, www.merseysidehome improvements.co.uk, in the near future.
Merseyside Home Improvements is an internet business which provides a database of local home improvement companies, suppliers and tradesman operating across Merseyside.
The site puts customers in touch with the right tradesmen who can improve, repair, decorate or expand homes and gardens.
Lyn Henderson, Managing Director of MHI, said: "As an internet business it is important
for us to
have video content on the website to add an extra dimension to what is essentially
a list of local businesses.
"The creative ideas that students came up with for the trailer were exceptional and it was extremely difficult to choose a winner.
"We have been very impressed with the students' commitment and abilities and are looking forward to seeing the finished product."
The link-up between South Cheshire College and MHI was forged through the College's employer engagement programme which aims to bridge the gap between business and education.
Members of the winning team received a £150 cash prize between them for their efforts which they received from Lyn and Mark at the End of Year show.
The show is an annual showcase event which celebrates student achievement in the College's Creative and Applied Arts faculty.
Many of the students are aiming for professional careers in the film and media industry when they complete their education.
Ade Baker, Employer Engagement Representative and Film and Media lecturer, said: "This project
has been a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain the experience of working to a live
brief from a real-life company.
"The standard of ideas that they have generated has been excellent and the winning team will
now
be able to take their design to the next level and finalise the trailer for MHI.
"We are very grateful to Mark and Lyn for giving students the opportunity to get involved in this project."
