When carrying out DIY on older properties it may be necessary to check to make sure there is no asbestos lurking about. A recent news item highlighted the plight of one unlucky householder who after spending over two years renovating his property found asbestos whilst shaving a couple of centimetres off a door he was re hanging. He has since been banned from returning to the property and is not sure when he can return.
All his contents have now been contaminated by the asbestos and the property needs to be de-contaminated to make it safe. Asbestos has been banned since around the mid 80’s after it was linked to lung damage.
