Building or buying a composter not only saves you money but also provides a natural environment for wildlife in your garden. The rotten vegetation provides shelter to hedgehogs as they like to hibernate in the heap the hedgehogs also control snails and slugs in your garden.
Compost heaps also attract insects which help break down the waste and birds which like to feed on the insects especially during the winter months when food is scarce. The best sort of household waste to compost is fruit and vegetable peelings along with leaves and pruning’s from the garden. Remember to keep turning over your compost in the summer months to promote the composting.
