Merseyside Home Improvements - Wind Turbines

If you are seriously thinking of saving energy and the environment why not opt for wind power. You may have seen the large wind turbines along the UK coastline, well now you can also get them for the home.

The best place for a home wind turbine is ideally at the top of a hill or in a large open space. There are roof mountable turbines available but you need to check that you have sufficient wind available that is not disrupted. If there is no wind then you won’t get any power. You would need a constant minimum wind speed of 3 – 4 m/s for a wind turbine to start turning, for best results 10 – 12 m/s would be required.

They range in price from about £700 for a small 1.1m wide turbine with a 500w output. To supply enough power to run a home though you would need a much larger turbine, probable around a 2.5kw which may cost £5,500. Whilst they aren’t cheap they will greatly reduce your heating bills and pay for itself in just a few years.
