Merseyside Home Improvements - Gardening Tips
From Neat and Tidy
Here are a few tips you can do yourself which will save you time and money, help control garden pests and help the environment. Having a beautiful garden can be easier than you think.
* When watering your garden it's best to do so either in the morning or late afternoon / evening. This is when the sun is cooler and moisture will not be evaporated as quickly by the hot sun.
* When planting new flowers, shrubs and trees always remember to give them a good watering, before and after planting.
* In spring apply a good quality feed and weed solution to your lawn, this will help keep it think and healthy during the summer months.
* If you need to pot on any flowers always leave till the flowering has finished. Doing so before will only cause the roots to grow and not the plant.
* To prevent slugs, snails and insects ruining your garden use insecticides and pesticides on a regular basis.
* To help the environment recycle your kitchen and garden waste by getting a composter. This will help your plants thrive, improve your soil and save you money.
* Installing a water butt is also an efficient way of cutting down on costs especially if you are on a water meter.
* The best way to ripen tomatoes is to place them in a box, cover with newspaper and store somewhere warm. Placing on a windowsill will not ripen the inside of the tomato.
* Banana peel contains excellent nutrients that are perfect for growing roses. Peel the banana and place the skins flesh side down around the base of your roses. It also helps control aphids.
* Planting french marigolds near to your vegetable plants will help deter bugs and slugs.
