What is a furniture package?
A furniture package is a complete set of household goods including furniture, tools and utensils etc. This will cover all rooms of the property, and allow someone to move straight in. Usual items included would be sofas, tables and chairs, lamps and decorative items etc in the living room, beds, tables, wardrobes, mirrors etc in the bedroom, cutlery, crockery, utensils, pans, glasses, small electrical items etc in the kitchen.
Furniture packages are mainly aimed at landlords and letting agents who need to let an empty property, but can be useful to anyone moving to a new property.
Some items may not be covered in the package such as kitchen white goods, ie, fridge and cooker, and items such as bedding and towels, or carpets and window coverings. Large electrical items such TV's would not normally be included. Fitted units in kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom may not be included. It is very important you review the entire inventory when placing your order.
Why buy a furniture package?
Furniture package companies have lots of experience in furnishing apartments. They will use tried and tested suppliers and as they buy in bulk you will obtain excellent value for your money. The main reason though is due to time. Especially if you live some distance from the property, it can be very time consuming and frustrating to find everything you need. Additionally staging the property to look its best could well be part of the package. As with many aspects of life, some jobs are best left to the professionals.
Set menu or A la Carte?
Some companies have set inventories within a given price range for a particular property format. For example all two bedroom, one bathroom apartments would receive the same package, although each company will have several options or price ranges to choose from, and there will always be flexibility to add or remove individual items. The advantage of this is you will know well in advance exactly the items you will be buying, and the company will often have a studio in which you can view and try every item on the list.
Other companies will tailor make an individual furniture package for you. The idea being that not every two bedroom, one bathroom apartment is the same. Modern apartments can contain some very odd shaped rooms for which a set inventory is totally inappropriate. There is also nothing to distinguish your apartment if you have the same set of goods as every other in the block, which can be the difference between getting the best tenant or not. You have total control over every item.
