Your new fitted kitchen - flatpack or bespoke?
The kitchen is the focal point of many households and one of the busiest rooms in most. A well designed kitchen can make a huge difference in how much you enjoy the preparation and cooking of food, as well as all the other related tasks. A quality, well presented kitchen is also top of the desirability list when people buy a house. So if you’re looking to replace your kitchen then it makes good sense to plan it well, seek all the professional help you can find, choose a reputable company to do the installation or design and invest your money in the things that matter – most of the expensive gadgets you’ll hardly use can be added at a later date if you still have the desire. We are lucky that here in Liverpool and across Merseyside we have a number of highly professional companies that can design supply and fit to suit all budgets.
Some people these days go for a designer fitted kitchen where the units are either custom made to fit the dimensions of the room or (for a more cost effective approach) standard size units are used alongside infill panels to ensure a tailored fit. For some properties, typically the older and ‘country’ style homes, free standing units may be preferable.
Todays kitchens come in a bewildering range of styles and finishes as well as quality and price. Most of the large DIY stores now offer a range of good quality flat pack units and these stores can be found in Liverpool, Wirral, St Helens, Widnes and Southport. The cupboards themselves tend to be a set design with a standard range of sizes. You then choose the style of doors and handles to suit your personal taste. The effect is then finished of with a choice of worktop finishes. An accomplished DIY’er could probably do most of the installation themselves but please be aware that there will probably be electrical and plumbing work that requires professional help as well as the more difficult DIY tasks such as mitering the worktops etc. If your units are OK but you fancy a change then you may have the option to simply change the doors and handles. Along with a worktop change this will completely transform a kitchen with a minimum of work.
But for the best results it will always pay to call in the fitted kitchen specialists. These companies will call to your home to measure the room, determine how you wish to get the most out of it and then design a bespoke kitchen to match your exacting needs. Styles range from traditional farmhouse in wood or a wood effect finish to the more modern high gloss or even stainless steel finishes. All the secondary work such as plumbing and electrical work will be included within the fitting charge as can the finishing touches such as tiling and even decorating.
When it comes to electrical goods the sky, or rather your budget, is the limit. A fridge freezer can cost as little as a few hundred pounds for a basic model to thousands for the larger ‘american style’ models with built in TV’s and ice-making facilities. Likewise a built in oven can cost as little as £200 - £300 but a quality multi-fuel range cooker can cost a good few thousand.
Whatever your budget and taste, when you choose a replacement kitchen it will always pay dividends to invest in the best quality you can afford. Kitchens are right at the top of the list of ways in which you can add value to your property. Conversely, a badly fitted, poor quality new kitchen could actually reduce the value of your property.
