Types of curtain and blind
Curtains
Curtains come in a wide range of styles and materials to suit the requirements of home owner, be this to retain heat, omit light or just style. Americans tend to refer to curtains as drapes due to the tendency for them to be slightly ‘too long’ and drape along the floor. In this country we tend to hang curtains such that they stop just short of the floor. Our choice of curtain tends to depend on the room it’s for – living room curtains tend to be chosen more for the style and may never actually be closed whilst bedroom curtains may well to be of a darker, tightly woven material that excludes light well. In colder houses or regions we might choose lined curtains as they can provide good thermal insulation when closed.
Voiles (from the French for veil) are made of lightweight woven fabric. In hotter climes they may take the place of curtains whilst in this country they have to some degree replaced the old net curtains as a means of providing privacy and sun protection to the home owner.
Liverpool has a great many stores that offer all types of window dressings, some stores will even custom make to your own design.
Blinds
Window blinds come in many varieties. Venetian and vertical blinds are both forms of slat blind. These comprise a number of individual elements (slats) that open and close to control the amount of light. They can also be completely drawn to either the top or side of the window opening respectively. Venetian and vertical blinds can be made from plastic, wood, metal or various forms of material, depending on the look and light absorption required.
Solid blinds or window shades either roll or fold up. The most easily recognised is the roller blind or shade but there are also pleated, honeycomb and roman varieties. Decide what suits your decor and furnishings and choose a style that will compliment the look you want to achieve.

With so many types of curtains and blinds available it can be hard to make a decision. Consider woven wood blinds for your windows if you want a high quality, uniquely stylish window treatment.
